A type of vehicle that is meant to transport containerized cargo in small and mediumsized ports and terminals is called a reach stacker. Reach stackers are ideal for quickly shuttling containers short distances and stacking them in rows.

Because of their flexibility, reach stackers are a popular choice for handling intermodal cargo containers. They could stack higher than forklift trucks. With a reach stacker capable of second row access, container blocks could be kept four-deep.
