Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is constructed from thousands of parts. The major components which make up a forklift truck are the truck frame, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the wheels and the tilt cylinders. Furthermore, a lift truck consists of a range of attachments. All the components which make up a lift truck are all important because they work together to make the functions of the machinery possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail several of the forklift parts.

The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the equipment operator whilst she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would injure the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on some models.

The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.

Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component that the forks and other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. In order to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.

Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.

Forklift Attachments - a variety of attachments can be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. Moreover, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These various kinds of attachments are really useful for transporting different types of loads.
