Propane cylinders are designed to take up really little space and can be kept in an outdoor facility or inside the storage area. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, though, it still does needs operator training in order to be conducted safely and also require knowledge of safety standards like the Occupational Health and Safety Administration or OSHA.
IC lift trucks are easier and faster to refuel, compared to electric lift trucks, but the IC or internal combustion engines produce major air-polluting emissions and are extremely noisy.
NARROW-AISLE LIFT TRUCKS
The Class 2 forklifts consists of numerous varieties of forklift which are particularly made to be used in narrow aisles. The regular storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily enables a counterbalanced lift truck to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Usually, the very narrow aisles are approximately 5.5 to 6 feet wide, whereas narrow aisles are 8 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized forklifts that can put away loads without any turning at all or that are small enough to turn on a tight radius.
Turret trucks, order pickers and reach trucks are 3 of the most common narrow-aisle forklifts. The differences amongst these lift trucks are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Trucks
The original narrow-aisle lift truck is considered to be the conventional reach truck. These machinery do not require a huge counterweight and are thus, small enough to turn in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms that extend in front of the forklifts. Then again, depending on the storage configuration, these outrigger arms could prevent the trucks from getting near enough to the storage rack to retrieve and deposit loads. In order to overcome this specific situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is a reach truck that is designed with a telescoping mechanism. This allows forks to reach into storage locations easily and concisely.
The best environment for narrow aisle lift trucks is a place which has good lighting, clean floors and good traffic flow, well-maintained floor, as well as sufficient turning space.
