There are two basic types of forklifts, units which run on gas and those that run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Forklifts: The IC forklift would run on fuels such as liquid propane, gas, diesel or compressed natural gas or CNG. Gas powered models are great for outdoor applications as they emit pollutants and gases that are harmful to employees and pedestrians. Gas units are also suitable for application in the rain and in bad climate. These units can lift weights roughly 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel costs and maintenance, models which run on gas are much more costly to use compared to models that run on electricity, although, they cost less up front than the electric models. Units which run on liquid propane are the right option for safe use in indoor applications.
Electric Forklifts: Electric forklifts take batteries which need regular charging. Because these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machinery. They are the best choice for indoor use and warehouses. What's more, forklifts that run on electricity are much quieter to run than other units and they do not require any fuel storage units. Among the downsides of the electric models is that they are unable to carry loads over 15,000 pounds and therefore, have a slower acceleration than the units that use gasoline.
The lift truck is specifically made to transport goods and supplies quickly and easily. Mishaps do happen regularly like is the case with nearly all kinds of machinery. There are specific safety regulations that should be followed to be able to keep everyone safe. The most important concern is recruiting a trained operator, who can show you a valid forklift license.
On the market nowadays, there are many different styles of lift trucks available. Deciding which one is right for your specific requirements would be based on the type of environment your machine will need to operate in, like for instance, indoors or outdoors or both and what types of loads that you need to transport. When you understand your particular needs, it will be easy to match up to the best kind of lift truck. When you know your requirements exactly you can make a correct choice.
Leasing is another great way to check out various models if you want to try out various features and see what type of choices are available. This is a less expensive way to determine if the type of equipment you have in mind could keep up with you on the job site.
